Ryan,

I will keep my ears open for one, and EBAY normally has several close to that size pretty reasonable.

How about fabricating one from old street signs? Your local street/road dept. ought to have some old faded ones you can get cheap or free.

I thought about making my own but i dont have a brake. And the nearest machine shop that would have one is at least an hour away and charges a crazy price to bend it and another 25 dollars for the 'shear fee' . I do already have a couple of Big road signs though. I need to eventually buy my own brake. I seen a 48 inch brake on ebay wiyh the buy it now price of 120.00. Thats real cheap for a new hand brake of that size. The only place that sells sluices in Indiana they want something ridiculous like 180 bucks for a proline. I checked craigs list and thought i had one for 40 bucks and i told id buy it and pay for shipping and he said ok but then i called later and it turns out he'd alredy sold it right after i talked to em to someone that lived in the same state. Sucks
Well thaks for the reply's and keepin the eyes an ears open.

Just a "heads up" regarding aluminum signs. Most are made of hardened aluminum that resists bending. You can cut/TIG them. But bending them usually results in cracks/breaking.

Been there...done that.

John is right, those signs will likely not bend well without cracking.

I've made many small sluices and things with old signs by cutting and use waterproof construction adhesive from the hardware store, L-brackets, bolts or rivets where necessary. They ain't too pretty sometimes but function well.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I didnt know they would crack if bent. What makes em do that? For now im probally just gonna keep lookin for a used one. I dont wanna buy a new one and cut and fabricate pieces from and on to a new one.

Has anyone try to bend the signs after annealing, i.e. heating them to remove the temper at the location you need to bend?

That might work. I never had a metal brake though to spur on the notion to try it.

I will look around today and see if I have something laying around. There are some sluices but I'm not sure the size of them.

I don't have a 10".  Would you want me to whip one together?  Got plenty of scrap signs.  Made to your size specs, L-brackets with rivets. $25 plus shipping for bottom and straight sides. Maybe a little more if you need any fancy attachment points.  I could do it this afternoon in about an hour or so...

yep street signs are tempered alum.... you can anneal them like was posted to soften the alum so that it can be bent. but bend it slowly to ensure that it dont crack.
