Summer's over for me
Reply Quote
8.5 oz and I'm calling it quits for the summer. Pullin out and going to Oroville Ca for a little detecting on the NF Yuba then to my Drs. in Barstow. A few more days in Laughlin NV and then on down to Quartzsite AZ for the winter.
The summer was great, started out with very little gold recovery and moved that stupid dredge so much I thought about putting wheels and a trailer hitch on it. Finally dropped into an area right behind my 5th wheel at Savadge Rapids where it was dredged by 4 different people last year.
I took out 7 oz right there in a spot about 30/40ft in lenght. Trouble was nobody went to bedrock because of a semi-cemented layer. When I found it I borrowed Jim Foley's pressure washer and blasted it apart and went on down. Biggest nugget was 2 dwt and 2 of them that were .5dwt. 5 oz went through a #12 screen, very little that would pass through a 50 screen. Finally called it quits when I was moving 12' of tailings just to work a 4 square ft are of bedrock. Water line to bedrock was 15' to 17'. Now in my book, that's just too much to move with a 5" dredge (but I did have my suit heater working -grin).
had 2 boulders 7'x7'x4' that I moved a little bit with my pick up. Well far enough anyway to get them out of the overburden and down onto bedrock. Man I hate them widow makers.
Anita didn't get but 3 days underwater and was, and still is, PO'ed at me. Needless too say there were a few meals that were a little disapointing. Sure was easy to figure out when she was mad. Oh, I forgot to mention that it was all dredging backwards. Dredge out from the bank and upriver from the hole and dredging down stream.

Well theres next year if the Lords willing.
I'll check in somewhere down the road. Using Norcalgold's puter right now.

Lee & Anita
Still somewhere in CA.

Lee,

Wow.........sorry to read your post so late in the season. I say Wow again--8.5 ounces. Now that's dredging!

Great report on your deep underwater exploits. Out here we are happy with flakes and fines :) Would love to get big nuggets and huge amounts of pickers, like you do!

You & Anita be safe, winter in comfort, and keep the stories of Kalifornia flowing come next Spring.
