ALCON, What do we know about a GPAA common dig at Buchanan, Georgia, this Labor Day weekend? Steve in Florida mentioned there was one in the works.........and I just might be able to go..... I need some specifics.......like sign up, any cost, times, days, POC, etc. What can we share here on the Forum for everyone to start making plans?? Thanks!! Randy    Report

Hey Randy The Labor Day Common dig in Buchanan is the Florida chapters common dig. OK you need details. Her goes. Sign Up: Show up we will be there. Cost: Couple gallons of gas for the dredges. Times: When you show up, we will be there. Days: the actual common is Sat and Sun, but when ever you show up works. POC: Me, 321 689 9424. The Florida Chapter is somewhat informal in case you couldn't tell, I think they are talking about doing a supper Sat or Sun night. I am planning on being up there early if you can get loose from work. Looks like I won't be available for the 2-day Memorial Day weekend dig after all.......family commitments. That said, I MIGHT be able to get away Friday only before the weekend to dredge on Beech Creek. I have learned that Friday is a local wing "family day" off before the weekend. If you are there Friday I'd love to meet you, exchange stories and run the creek bottom ragged. :) I finally figured out my water pump problem.........Brian gave me the scoop. I thought my foot valve had no rubber flapper inside. Turns out it's in there, but the housing was warped so badly the flapper couldn't seal. After some repairs, it now works fine and seals perfectly. I now "pump" the inlet hose, clear out the air pockets and it primes on the very first pull. Heavy pans in Georgia! The flapper was there, but the inside face plate was so badly warped it could not seal at all. I completely disassembled the valve, cleaned it, hot water boiled the face plate, pressed it flat and silicone sealed it all upon reassembly. Now it seal perfectly. I also watched my new GPAA CD-ROM of Perry Massie running a dredge and he gave me a few pump priming 101 ideas. Bottomline: I get the water up/thru thru the pump and it goes on the first pull 90% of the time! Not like my 20 minutes of exhaustion, as in days past. :) Thanks again. Hey, did you take a pan and a bag of gold?? Hope you're making prospecting converts over there. If not, maybe I need to send you a bag of dirt and a pan to help you keep your sanity and spread the prospecting "word"??? Randy    Report
