We packed our bags and headed out around 7 Saturday night to Coker. We arrived around midnight (sorry people sleeping in tents) and set up camp. Grabbed a few beers and stared at the stars, beautiful night.
We woke up early and headed to our secret spot we dubbed the honey spot. We knew it has almost ran out, but we tried to poke it one more time. With 3 of us panning we all ended up with a few good flakes, lots of specks, and random nano gold. About 4 it started raining...HARD. The guy who drove and his son went to grab a few beers, but on Sunday in Monroe they don't sell beer. So, while me and my other buddy drug everything back to camp, the bottom fell out. No car and two small tents, we threw a tarp over a downed tree and watched it pour for almost 2 hours before the others came back. We cranked up some tunes and cooked steak and potatoes as the skies cleared out nicely.
Early Monday we woke up and the creek was up pretty good, so we decided to hit Coker Creek Falls. WE hiked in about 3 miles and panned a couple pans, but mostly just took in a beautiful day. We are looking at trying to come to Alabama and pan in 3 weeks. Anyone know of a good public place where we can come and camp?

Digi,
That's one heck of a trip report!!
I have to hand it to you.....you found some gold and got up close and personal with nature!
Some of the "fine and pleasant" memories are the ones where everything DIDN'T go 100% as planned, and are the ones you actually remember. Something to laugh and joke about for years to come....."remember when we went prospecting and this and that, and got soaked in 2+ hrs of torrential rain"....."couldn't even find some beer to drown our sorrows".....
Can you post any pics of your adventure or your gold?
Thanks for the story and plz keep them coming. I for one enjoy reading of everyone's exploits out chasing the GOLD!
Happy panning. Randy a.k.a. "C-17A"

digi,
Sound like you had a good time, and don't let the rain stop you, you have to get wet anyway, unless you are drywashing, and you got GOLD, way to go!!
In Alabama, I would go to the Alabama Gold Camp, here is a link to their website,
http://www.alabamagoldcamp.com/
you will have to copy and paste it.

I couldn't get the photo page to work, so here is a link. This is my share of me and a friends Coker Creek gold, I'd say 50 hrs a piece with pans and sucker only. We have a sluice ( used it for 5 minutes), but we just seem to enjoy chilling and panning. Strangely I haven't taken any pictures of us panning, only some mushrooms and stuff that looked cool. Is the AL gold camp free? It is a 4 hr 15min drive for us and is there nice tent camping spots?

AGC costs $5 per night for primitive camping and $5 per day for panning and sluicing. That is as of last spring.

Thanks ghost for the prices. Still not sure, we may go back to Coker or GA or something within 4hrs or so of Nashville.
