flourchild, That sounds a little high, BUT dredges are going for top dollar right now... The only thing that would worry me is the pontoons... You can hear and see the motor and pump run, but the pontoons being the yellow ones are kind of old... Make your first offer a little low...

New pontoons will run you about $100 each, and it will take 4... so definately keep that in mind before you make an offer... I would try to poke a screwdriver through them before I decided they were still good.... If you have to rebuild this thing it will cost you almost as much as buying new...look at it closely...you don't want to buy someone elses problems!!!!

I thought the new slate grey pontoons from Keene were one piece but I know even at that I'm looking at $300.00 or more I'll be sure to check them out what should I do with a screw driver and are the pontoons supposed to have give should they be firm what do I look for?

when you push a screwdriver into them they should flex a little... if they are rotten the screwdriver will punch through or crack the pontoon.... look for cracks like you would see in a dry rotted tire. also inspect for severe rusting in the riffles and screens.

be carefull when examining someone elses equipment by poking or trying to push a screw driver into their floats!!! if you would damage them you might have a problem and end up buying it because you damaged them even though it was about to fall apart.look at the bottom of the floats and the sides for damage and on the top look for UV cracking/damage.the hoses as well.look at the log to see if the sides are bulging out from rock damage.Reed Lukens did a great post on www.49ermike.com about buying used dredge. its worth the time reading it if your in the market for a used dredge and dont know what to look for.good luck on your deal.but the guy driving 300 miles one way??he would have to spend maybe $150. in fuel to do that!

the trouble with the older yellow pontoons were the enviromental damage the sun did to them. yep they faded and then the material dried out and become brittel. ive seen pontoons that you could dig your finger nails into. keep them out of the sun when not being used.dont store it outside!!make sure you drain the water from the pump /hoses when done and ready to store it, even for a week!let the engine run untill it runs out of fuel for storage. and i always use STA-BIL or (SEAFOAM) in all my fuel cans. it works for me!
