I WENT TO THE LOCAL LIBRARY AND FOUND A BOOK ON THE FAIR TAX MOVEMENT THE FIRST THREEQUATERS OF THE BOOK EXPLAINED THE HISTORY OF OUR CURRENT TAX SYSTEM AND HOW IT GOT TO BE THE OVERGROWN, MONSTER IT HAS BECOME !THE REST OF THE BOOK EXPLAINES IN GREAT DETAIL WHAT THE FAIR TAX IS AND HOW IT CAN UNBURDEN THE WORKING PUBLIC AND CORPRATIONS AND BEST OF ALL SMALL BUSSINESS IN OUR COUNTRY, GIVING A CHANCE TO GROW AND PROSPER AS NEVER BEFORE !  AL OF THIS IS POSSIABLE AND THE NEEDS OF OF COUNTRY ARE MET WITH MORE THAN ENOUGH! IT ALSO COVERS ALL POSSIABLE ARGUMENTS AGINST THE FAIRTAX . Put the IRS out of business and immediately cut the size of government.   When you leave any money not spent untaxed. PERIOD!!!! This would encourage savings. Credit is anti-savings. Ever notice how the Fed controls the growth of the economy by increasing or decreasing the interest rate? If  Saving is conducive to being debt free, then easy (low interest) credit is conducive to DEBT!!!!!!!.  The bankers want you all in debt. It is their job to make sure you stay in debt. Herschel is on the right track.  I'm certainly not an economic expert, but it seems to me like we're on a collision course here.  On one hand the gov't is urging us to spend, spend, spend.  On the other hand they say SSI is dying and we need to save.  I'm 56 and already becoming risk adverse with my money, but there is no incentive to save and earn interest.  The only incentive is to invest in higher risk areas.  My simple mind tells me if folks could have a regular savings account that paid 5 or 6% interest guaranteed, then banks would have a lot more money to work with and be able to offer lower interest rates to business investors.  Wouldn't that help?? Pain and suffering is inevitable. Being miserable is optional.    Report

It all boils down to the fact that the borrower being servant to the lender. If you borrow from the banks, you not only owe them interest, you purpose for living and working is to pay them back. If you are debt free you are free to do what you want. You are free to invest, deposit your money in a savings account or IRA, Mutual fund, spend it on yourself, someone else or just give it away.  It's YOUR money. Not the banks. We already wind up paying about 45 or 50 percent of our wages in one form or another of taxes. Consolidate it all into one tax and be done with it. Well, we gotta have some kind of tax.  But one way to save a whole boatload of bucks would be to stop paying politicians AFTER they get voted out of office or retire.  Look it up-- Gerry Ford STILL gets paid 183,500 bucks a year.   So does Carter and Bush Sr and His Royal Dumfudgemajesty Clinton.   What's up with that.  Oh, and they are provided (this is the BEST part) an office and a staff (aka Clintons' Harem!!!).  Where dat muny come frum????  And I won't even get started on senators and congressmen.  Their retirement is pretty good, but I'll let ya'll look up some of the facts and figures on that.  And keep in mind that there are HUNDREDS of thos jerks still living it up on our tab.    Report

I have seen 2 different articles in the past month, talking about the economy, and it was noted in both that our economy is based on borrowing.  I have always said our govt tries to keep us in our "place" by taxing the heck out of us......keep us from saving much of our hard earned money, keeping us from enjoying the rich lifestyle our elected officials seem to have.  Seems they tax the heck out of us, so we have to borrow to buy anything anymore. I think I read a long time ago, like in the days from the bible, that men would amass a fortune to pass on to their sons to help them, and they would pass it to their sons and so on............how many of us today, have enough of anything left to pass on to our kids? Silver and Gold! Silver and Gold!    Report

It's time for the new American Revolution. It should begin by making a clean sweep of the incumbent elected officials. Term limits. Elect statesmen and women, not politicians. Let it begin by petitioning the elected officials for redress of our grievances. The big problem is not enough people let the hooligans know in person what those grievances are. Here are a few of my grievances. Double federal taxation on gasoline. ie 18.5 cents per gallon on gasoline purchased, then federal income tax on the amount I pay for fuel to get too and from work. Unfair taxes. Some have to pay taxes, some don't.   "Earned (actually "unearned")  income credit". SSI to those who have never paid taxes. Special interest groups allowed to "buy" congressional seats/votes by "buying" the congressman/woman. No protection of our borders against illegal immigration/entry.
