Latest Detecting Trip -- Found Man's Silver Ring

C-17A 05-21-2008, 2:23 PM
Greetings detectorists,

This last weekend I had a few hours available, so I loaded up my Whites MXT and drove to Easton's Beach, here in RI. This is a large/long sandy beach close to the downtown area, so I hoped to "get lucky", as all my previous trips were pretty much "unlucky".

This time the winter weather had removed a lot of the sand off the beach, and some areas up near the road were wind swept nicely, with lots of clam shells and debris clearly exposed on top.

I started detecting in a standard up/back pattern, finding a fair amount of corroded zinc pennies, some dimes and a few quarters, amidst all the beer can debris and pull tabs.

The I had a really strong "50 cents" signal and dug up this nice sterling silver man's ring very close to the surface. Pic posted. It's in great shape, and weighs 10.8 grams. Has 925 stamped inside. What makes it interesting is the design. There's a revolving band in the middle of the ring body itself. Has a three-sided pattern on this band. I have never seen a design like this.

Anyone know what it is? Any help IDing it?

Anyways, you NEVER know when your next trip out is the one with the "big find". So, enjoy every trip and good luck!! Dig everything....

Randy

Way to go, C-17A.  I believe what you found is a spinner ring.  Check out this site:

Make a search for "spinner ring" and you'll get a bunch of hits.  Again, way to go, guess I'm going to get out my MXT and give it a run!!!!!!!!

Randy,

NICE FIND!!

The ring at 10.8 grams is only 2 grams more or less lighter than a silver half dollar, so in that respect the MXT was close on it ID, good thing to remember!

My wife says that the design on the center band is Irish, she can't remember what the design is called, if she remembers I will post it.

The good news is I have seen a ring like this before, you have to turn the center ring 3 times to the right and then 3 times to the left, and then it rips a hole in the time/space continuum and you will be transported back to the year 1848, to the heart of the California "Mother Load", and will be able to find ALL THE GOLD BEFORE ANYONE ELSE!!!!COOL, LOL

LOL, Gold seeker, but how is he going to get back with all that gold?

Randy, see if this is the ring:  Item # 9 or 10.

Very nice find, and to still be in good condition is unusual on a salt beach.

Everyone,

Yep. It's definitely a man's silver spinner ring in the "Braided Star" pattern.

May have been made by a different maker, as my spinner band looks to be a bit thinner than these on the web site, but still the same design and pattern for sure.

Thanks everyone for the comments and in helping me ID it!!! Now, back to the beach sooooon for more. :)
