I have just found a deposit of very tiny ore, and very pretty it is. However, the deposit is mostly iron pyrites. (sulfides, not copper.) I have never really played with the stuff and would like to know if anybody has a fool proof way of running the stuff. Yes, I have roasted to a nice red heat and dumped. Any advice from you all ? Appreciate. UMI

Pyrites will use up acids fast, so you might want to try some warm muratic acid next. The heat should have driven off the sulfer tho.

Thanks Chuck,
The warm HCL didn't work either. After I run a leach for the good stuff, the little yellow bits are even more numerous than before leaching. A real puzzle !!! The leach I am using is SSHCL and Iodine. Ph about 0.5 Any ideas ? Next I am going to try some homemade Nitric Acid, courtesy of Randy on the phone a while back. He mentioned it and I remembered a way of producing it from an old manual. You might find it interesting. Pub 1895 The Prospectors Guide by Prof Osborn. It can be obtained form www.Lindsaypub.com
