Look at the cool digging tool I found at lowes for 14 bucks. It is a 7 in one gardners buddy. Some of you may know about it already. It really slices through the grass. Cant beat the price.
Well I am having trouble posting here so I put it in members other pics under digging tool

Shellyrat,
I have two of the "7 in 1 Gardners Buddy", one for me and one for my wife.
With the serrated side I have cut thru 1" roots in less then 10-15 seconds.
You know what?, They work just great in the garden too!!! LOL
