Found silver with my MXT today
|

I found my first silver coin with my MXT today. I had a few extra minutes so I ran over to a elementry school about a mile from home. After about 20 minures I had 65 cents they had remulched this playground about a year ago. I was getting alot of coin hits that were 6-8 inches deep that I couldn't dig because they had put down landscape fabric before the new mulch. As I was headed back to the truck I got a dime hit at about 5 inches deep. I dug it and guess what my first silver a 1945 dime. I think this could become addictive!
HAPPY TURKEY DAY

Kev NC, Metal detecting is a part of prospecting that is often overlooked... It can be a way to fund the dredge trips, if you can bring yourself to part with your finds!!! I wind up keeping all of mine!!! lol... Besides when the water is too cold to dredge, it is a way to still get out of the house and have some fun...

Cosmic the Old clothsline was the right place to send him. I have found more dimes under them than any where else. Back before folks used dryers Mammas always hung the jeans upside down on the line. A dime being the smallest of the coins was the easiest to miss. So as they started to dry and the wind got to blowing them out they come. When I hunt new property I always ask if they know where the cloths line was. And of course some times its still there. Keep a huntin there is a lot more out there...... Buck

Way to Go Kevin!! Re: Found silver with my MXT today

Kev,
Way to go!! I have had my MXT out now 4 times........once at the beach and three times at local elementary schools/parks.
Mine is one heck of a coin finding machine! I now have about $25 in misc change and about 325 coins total. The coin symbols seem pretty accurate too. The depth readout is about 50% off, as a 6 inch reading often means I find it at 3 inches.
The beach day was different...........as I saw lots of black sands in areas and the display showed a lot of "iron" alerts. The salt mode seemed to have no effect, so I left it in ground mode.
The strange stuff always seems to show up as "nickel or ring".............so I did everything except obvious foil with VERY low VDIs.
Glad you have your first silver coin..........I haven't found mine yet. Some day. This is a great thing to do when you can't get to the river or it's too cold in the water!!
Let's keep in touch with what our "dueling MXTs" can find :)

Randy,
You have me beat by a longshot with the change found. We have only been to 2 schools and 1 county park looking ffor change ffor a total off maybe 3 hours. Most of the coins we found were about 1/2 as deep as the screen showed. May have something to do with thee compacted mulch in the playgrounds. I found a 2 old schools here that we are going to today they were built in the early 1900's. I hope we can pull out some old coins there.
Last weekend we were down in SC detecting and found a bunch off modern lead bullets. I let Conley use my MXT and withing 3 minutes he had a target that showed up as a button at 8inches deeep. We found in at about 7 inches deep and it ws a old brass button. It has Blue Bell on it and a big bell. As soon as I figure out how it clean it without damaging it I will post a pict of it.
Maybe we can get Brian to add a Detector Finds section in the photo area,
Kev

Excellant find Kev. Silver is hard to come by.
When I had my MXT, I always wanted to get a belt mount for the box, to help take the weight off the swinging arm. As it was, I could go for 4 to 5 hours on the beach, and that was with the 14" DD coil..
I never did get a belt mount for it. Instead, I traded it in for a Minelab Soverign GT.
Look into getting a "DD" coil sometime in the future. You'll be impressed.

One more item you land locked detectorists need, is a pinpointer. It increased my finds a great deal by saving time in finding those coins that look just like the dirt they came out of.
White's makes a good one.

I got a Bullseye II with my detector. It work great! Makes it easy to locate tkings that blend right in with the soil and mulch.

Excellent, That's the one I was talking about.
I traded mine to a guy in Indiana for two really nice fishing reels. He took up detecting and gave up catfishing.
