Missionary Ridge, Tn Finds

Hi everyone, been gone since the 3rd of July, just got back last night. 

A Friend finally got to hunt up on Missionary ridge, in Chattanooga, Tn, and found the items in the pictures.  The one circled in red is what he can't identify.  Did they use any kink of plumb bob with the cannons?  It was dug along with all the other items, which all seem Confederate. Its a little flat on the front and back.  Any help would be appreciated!

Hey Herschel, help me out, I'be been gone a few days, I'll have to be retrained, put the links up for me!!!!! 

 Oh yea, the owner was having some fill dirt brought in, bummer!

GasCan/SW-GA, I think you are right, if I remember correctly, I saw a recovered and restored cannon.. It had a piece of metal that hung from the barrel that was somehow used to set elevation when firring the cannon... Maybe someone will know more or if I am right... Looks like some great finds...

Herschel, Good read!!! Gascan, read that article, part way down it talks about "killing the vivo" it talks about a "shim" to level the bore and barrel... That could be what it is, if the flat sides are sloped, if not it could still be a plumb bob for the elavation... Just a thought...

Thanks a lot guys, he was leaning toward a plumb bob, but wasn't sure.  I've forward your comments to him!  One day, I'm going to be able to go up there and do some hunting with him (insert "watching"  smiley here)!!!!
