You gotta set your camera up for closeups Tommy. But first, you gotta have one that'll do close ups. They generally cost more than that little $20.00 cam sittin' on top of your computer.

Hi Twigg,

It's no secret, you just need bigger gold..HA HA HA HA..

sorry, couldn't resist.

What kind of camera do you have? I have an old Canon G5 5 MP camera.

1) See if your camera has a macro mode ( that means it can focus close up) you should see a button with a picture of a little flower if it does.If it does

put your camera into macro mode

2) Set your piece of gold on a flat surface, this is important because you don't want any vibrations

3) set your camera 2 to 3 inches away from gold and see if you can focus it. If you can arrange the camera on the same flat surface. This way all you have to do is gently squeeze the button.

3.5) You need lot's of light. Natural sunlight works best, keep the sun at your back so the face of your subject is lite and you don't see any shadows. If you can't use natural sunlight I use a 100 W halogen lamp at home.

4) If you get a good picture you need an image editing program. I use Adobe Photo shop but you can also use irfanview ( free at www.irfanview.com)

You can use this program to crop the picture and sharpen the photo 1 or 2 steps. This makes the detail pop out of your photos.

Basically I try to get as close to the subject as I can when i take the picture, that eliminates alot of editing steps later.

Let me know and i can walk you through it on the phone
