Welcome CarolinaGoldCritter. Now that's a name I like since I raise and train all the gold gitter critters here on the forum, that name has a price tag that comes with it. Not only am I the "chief instigator, I am the official owner of the gold gitter critter trademark.
I notice your post says "experienced". That means, "I have found gold". Since you're gonna infringe the gold gitter critter gold grubbin registered title of gold critter, it's gonna cost you a one ounce nugget, or, a combination of lesser weight nuggets to make up one ounce. Of course, I have to inspect all of your gold to make sure it is real, so just send it to me, or, I can send my gold grubbin gitter critters to come after it. You really wouldn't want that, as they get awfully ferocious if you try to hide any gold from them. If I have to send the critters, the price for infringement increases drastically, so you'd better ante up.
Now, on a more serious note. Welcome to the zoo Carolina Gold Critter.
Welcome to the most rediculous fracas you've ever run across. We got Twig, Michael UK the Britisher redcoat who invades the Colony of California every summer to strip it of it's gold. I think he's tryin' to finance a new English invasion of the colonies with our own money. Brian, Cecil, Kev, Abearzz, and Socalgold; you gotta watch real close. Then, we have redneckedgal, alabamasam, sunnyslife and a new little filly, Gils Girl. (Gotta be careful with the blond jokes, we got some of them here) And a whole slew of great people to numerous to name, who frequent this forum. Git out, come in and have a cuppa with us.
"Hey Honey bunch, we got company, put on a extra plate at the supper table and put a pallet down for Johnny. GoldGitterCritter's gonna spend the night with us".

hey dixiedredger
i,m a 40 yo male from chesnee sc. .that is about 15 miles north of spartanburg, and i would love to listen to anything you know about this general area.
i used to dredge quite a bit but my dredge locked up on me ,then i took a few years off from prospecting, now that i,m back at it i can only afford a sluice, and i,ve lost contact with most of the land owners i knew,so in a since it,s like being a greenhorn again. i do have plans of buying a dredge again, but i,ve got to save up some money.if you would be interested in doing some slucing that would be great,or if you have a dredge ,or highbanker , all the better. let me know if you would rather come down this way ,or i,ll come up your way which ever is more convenient for you.
heres to wishing you much gold ,

Critter,
I have a 5" triple...... a 4" 3 stage.......a 3" highbanker combo......a sluice..... and pans.........so I can handle any water you can get us in. I don't get to go as much as I used to.... on a count of having a 2 year old..... But I do get to break free every now and then. When I do get to go, I like to head down to the Uwharrie River in Eldorado NC. It's pretty much a public river and nobody really messes with us down there.... there are a bunch of guys on this site that hang out down there.... so even if I'm not going you could probably talk someone else into meeting you there. But there is alot of ground down your way that needs to be dredged. Check the site, I have linked below, and go to the "Where To Find Gold" page .....from there go to North Carolina or South Carolina and look to see if you might have access to anything close to any of the sites listed. I would be more than happy to help you check them out if you can get access.
http://www.tomashworth.com/
There is plenty of gold left to be found all over Spartanburg Co., Cherokee Co., York Co....... Hell..... all over the upstate..... pretty much, if you can get access to a creek around there, it's worth a look. The best place I have ever been, was about 15 minutes from Greer...I did a half an ounce in 3 hours there..... but a bunch of kids ruined that for me...... broke in and trashed the guys brand new trackhoe. He knew I didn't do it..... But after that... nobody got permission to be there..... I been BEGGING to get back in there for 3 years now!!!! And I think he's starting to crack.... now, he just says NO!..... used to be HELL NO!!!! so he's softening up a little.
The second best place I ever found was just outside of Whitmire.... I found it by pure luck...... I have never found any records of any gold being found within 30 miles of the place. But I always carry a pan when I'm deer hunting in a new place and one day I got bored and it payed off! It's in Sumter National Forest though, so it's pans only.
There are a bunch of us getting together down at the Uwharrie, Memorial day weekend 5/25, 5/26 I think are the dates. Find the post for "Memorial Day Weekend" listed under "Gold Prospecting" on this site. You will find all the info you need there.... someone would be glad to give you directions to the site..... The road names escape me right now.... but there are guys here that know the directions much better than I.

Critter, We try and get out atleast 1 day of the weekend! I'm one of the guy Dixie was talking about that hangout at the Uwharrie. If you want to come join us shoot me a PM. Memorial Day we are going to have a good size group at the river starting the 25th till the 28th. If you find a place down near you that can be dredged Abearzz and I are always will to give a new place a try. Between the 2 of us we have 1 2inch dredge, 1 3inch dredge and 2 4 inch gredges so any size creek will work.

Hey KevNC,
Could you give me an idea as to how much a decent used 2" dredge might cost.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Man!
I wouldnt know how to act if I had that much equipment at my diposal. The dredge that I used to own was a 2" er
I dont know anything about the Uwharrie except that my ex wifes cousin used to go up there to ride his dirt bike.
I have heard of gold in Lawsons fork creek in Spartanburg county, and I have found very fine gold in just about every small creek around here, and also in the Pacolet river.
I used to prospect the area between lake Blalock and lake Bowen on the Pacolet river, but Blalock was recently enlarged which made the river too deep for my sluice, but with the kind of gear that you have a little deep water should be no problem.
Anyway to make a long story short I do still have permission to cross the land of a Dr. Jackson to get to the river.
This is very close to where i live so we could meet here at my house and go from here.
There is also Buck creek that is less than a mile from my house, where we could get in the creek at a small bridge I know .I have also found some color in the top foot or two of overburden , and you should see some of the rock out croppings hanging just a few feet above water level. Either the 4"dredge or the highbanker combo should work well on the creek.

Critter,
What ever happened to your old 2"? Do you still have the peices and parts? If so they may be able to be salvaged more cheaply than buying another one used. My 5" was a salvaged dredge....bought for $100.... until I started buying new parts..... that put it up to about $2500..... BUT!!!! it would cost $4000 to replace it...... now the only part that is salvaged, is the sluices. I also bought a OLD 4" one time for $80 that I planned on salvaging......But I ended up selling it to a friend who was looking for parts for his salvage dredge.... he put 2 salvage dredges together....At a cost of $300 bucks for both..... now the olny part he has left to buy is the hose...... so he will end up with a 4" dredge for about $500 buy the time he gets done with it....... but he really scraped the barrel looking for parts.... he's been building that thing for about 6 years...... I just don't have that kind of patience!!! Anyway if you still have some of the parts, it may be worth trying to rebuild it...... I know a guy who dose small engine work and some fab-work down in Taylors.... and he is a prospector..... he helped me build alot of my stuff, when I was messing with it.
Also, I was looking for a place to go, down that way, this weekend. If your interested and can get permission to try out one of those places you mentioned. All my equipment is stored at my folks house in Greer (while my house is on the market).... and I was heading down that way this weekend. So I could probably meet up with you by maybe 1:00 on Saturday or earlier on Sunday morning. I had thought about running up to Heather Grove this weekend.... but I gotta drive from Charlotte to Greer just to get my dredge..... then to where ever I'm dredging.... and going to Heather Grove is alot more driving than is needed, if you can get us in somewhere around Spartanburg. I can go Sat. afternoon till early Sun. afternoon..... Sat. morning is for travel and loading the dredge..... Sun. afternoon is for the samething in the opposite direction. After the first of June, I will have all my stuff back in Charlotte (at my new house), and I won't have to waste so much of my time going to get and going to drop off.
I've been doin' so much, with with so little, for so long.... I can do almost anything, with nothing!!!!

Sorry ,but I talked to my fiance, and she has something we have to do at her son,s school this weekend, but I,ll be checking with Dr. Jackson to see if we can dredge there ,and I,ll get back to you.
Which dredge would you want to use in Pacolet river , and do you have four wheel drive.I don't ,and as I remember that's what it'll take to get in and out of there. It is down a long hill that's pretty hard to navigate.

Dixiedredger,
I could possibly get away from decorating the school on Sun. morning if you know of any places near Greer I would be glad to drive over that way and meet you.
I've heard there are some good places to prospect over that way,and I'm sure you know more about that neck of the woods than I do.

Dixie, If we don't tell Herschel we are going prospecting we can keep his share for ourselfs. He is way donw in LA and will never know the difference.
Critter, I paid 1000 for mine I bought it used but it was only about 3 months old and had about 20 hours on it. It also came with a suction nozzel and Power jet and all the hoses and mylex pontoons. I saw a 5 yearold 2inch Keene Backpaker sell on Ebay for $950 2 weeks ago. I might know someone with a 2 1/2 inch Keene for sell I will check with him.
